Aug 2, 2007 AMC Ah, yes, Erica’s flesh and blood is “all over this hospital.” Grandsons? As they sing in “Shaft,” “Shut yo’ mouth!” “Guilt’s a bitch, isn’t it?” Well, Josh, you’ve just cemented the fact that you’re not going to be romping on the beach (or anywhere else) with Greenlee! I’m really impressed with Alicia “Kendall” Minshew’s work of late. She’s showing all kinds of emotion without chewing the scenery. Two standout scenes thus far: blowing up at Erica when she showed up with a priest (one usually only sees La Kane with a priest during one of her weddings) and at Spike’s cribside, wondering why he was so silent. Thorsten “Zach” Kaye, whom I’ve admired since his Port Charles days, is also turning in a bravura performance. Most poignant: the range of feelings he displayed while listening to Myrtle’s voice mail message. Superb. Did you catch Kendall’s description of their family to little Ian? There was Uncle Josh, Auntie Binks, and, oh yes, “Erica…my mother.” Unreal! Listening to Greenlee spill her guts to Aidan really drove home and gave credence to her side of the story. She truly does love Spike, he’s here because of her desire to have Ryan’s child, and she made an awful mistake by deserting him along with Ryan and Kendall. While Rebecca Budig may have created the character, I’m gaining respect for Sabine Singh’s take on Greenlee. It’s challenging enough to do a good acting job in the fast-paced daytime arena; even more so when you’re replacing a popular actor. Singh’s doing some fine acting under some daunting circumstances. We’re in for some raw emotion when it’s discovered that Spike has suffered hearing loss…not to mention a lynch mob for Greenlee. Perhaps Jack’s advice to get out of town was something to be considered. Chief Frye is going to be mighty busy, what with bringing down drug dealers and dealing with the fallout after Spike’s diagnosis. GH It’s really a crime the amount of screen time that Bobbie’s shared with two of the loves of her life. I consider this Rick “Noah/Eli” Springfield’s second return to the show in the last two years and she’s seen him, what, twice? Then there’s Jerry Jacks. Under what circumstances will she see him? Well, since she couldn’t possibly place his face, perhaps she’ll overhear him threaten to kill her grandsons while he’s torching an animal shelter and taking hostages at Kelly’s. Way to go, PTB. Let’s just treat Bobbie and her history as callously as possible. She’s a beloved veteran, after all, so that makes sense. Jason’s trial has been rather compelling thus far. Sam didn’t turn on him as expected. Lawyer Diane neatly worked in her sexual encounter with Ric, portraying the D.A. in a dim light for the jury. Doesn’t Jax look even cuter when he’s all scruffy and bloody? Is that lady holding him captive related to Jerry’s (supposedly) late girlfriend, exacting revenge? Will Jax throw his leg over her to kill time before she kills him in front of his brother, proving that he is not only better looking than his sibling, but better in bed? You know how competitive those Jacks boys are! Kate Howard has the best haircut on television, bar none. Sort of a cross between Jennifer Aniston and Posh Spice Beckham. Trés chic! Ric told the jury that the image of Jason pointing a gun was the last thing that Alcazar could remember. Hello? If Alcazar could remember anything, surely that would indicate he’s alive! Liz didn’t seem overjoyed when Lucky told her he was going to be in the courtroom to support her during her testimony. Will this affect what she says on the stand? If Amelia is so gosh-darned grateful to Jason for saving her life, why didn’t she edit the footage of Jason’s transfer-turned-shootout so that it represented how he protected her rather than his prowess with a gun? As Ric was peppering Sonny with all sorts of inappropriate questions, ones he’s been jonesing to ask him on the stand for years, I could swear I saw the courtroom floor turn yellow. Lulu shot down Spinelli’s romantic intentions and visibly broke his heart. Mine broke a little, too. However, Spinelli will probably work overtime time win the love of his beloved. The Jackal loves a challenge! This could get interesting: Sam wants Maxie to team up with her to ruin Elizabeth’s life. Bring it! Kate’s testimony was, in a word, awesome. You could tell that Sonny thought so, too. Just wait and see what goodies he’ll have waiting for her later. (I’m talking pizza, you pervs!) Try as they might, Carly’s “It’s my hotel” and Maxie’s “I didn’t get pregnant and have an abortion” will never come close to Monica’s “It’s my house.” Not in a million years. LINE OF THE WEEK: “I think it would be better for both of us if you and I took hands and fled.” The Jackal’s advice to The Valkyrie after she expressed a desire to have The Unhinged One help them free Stone Cold. I’ve missed this righteous dude! Ric’s hitting below the belt in his questioning of Elizabeth. How far will she go to protect Jason? More important, how long will it take Lucky to bolt out of the courtroom and score some pills? RANDOM CONFESSIONS Any fans of Ryan’s Hope out there? You may like this next bit of news, garnered from Rosie O’Donnell’s blog (www.rosie.com), in the “Answers” section. Someone asked her if she had been a fan of RH, and she said that not only was she a fan, but she was working with Claire Labine to resurrect the show. CLAIRE LABINE, folks! This makes sense, especially as Labine makes her home in Brooklyn, not too far from one of Rosie’s dwellings. O’Donnell has always been a staunch supporter of ABC daytime. This could turn out to be an exciting project – and, frankly, anything that returns Claire Labine to daytime is something to support. Speaking of O’Donnell, her replacement on The View was announced yesterday, and, as expected and hoped, it is the fabulous Whoopi Goldberg. Tune in September 4 as Goldberg takes the moderator spot and kicks off what should be another interesting and compelling season. (The replacement for Star Jones’ seat was also expected to be named, but sources say that the leading contender, Sherri Shepherd, has not yet been able to hammer out a compensation package. Stay tuned!) |
