Media Ho (noun): A person who retains far too much information about people/places/things having to do with the media world, including (but not limited to) television, movies, music, pop culture, and the movers/shakers/performers in those worlds. Constantly frustrated by friends’ refusal to play any one of the versions of Trivial Pursuit with her. Result: this column, which will deal mostly with the rumors currently out there about ABC Dayti
me programs and players, delving deeply into them and offering further insight/commentary, drawing on that retained information as well as other sources.

Colby really has issues with Tad’s past with her mother. Imagine if she ever finds out about Grandma Marion! Betcha she will, which will please me no end, as that will mean scenes with Marion and Stuart.

I never thought Annie could intrigue me before now, so I’m anxious to learn her sordid backstory. Why did her father virtually ignore all references to Spike (and proud papa Ryan made quite a few)? Why the charade in front of Ryan when Annie and her father clearly want nothing to do with each other?

LINE OF THE WEEK: “If this is Colby’s idea of payback after what happened with Sean, I’m going to have to have speaks with that girl.” Why did I love that? Tad was quoting Peter Sellers’ Inspector Clouseau (of the Pink Panther classic comedies) when he said he’d “have to have speaks” with that girl. Fabulous! If he should ever refer to an animal as a “chimpanzee minkey.” I’ll totally lose it!

How cool for Colby that she has a bunch of young hip-hop musicians (Ren – the Joel Madden clone, Andre and Corinna) living next door…and with a built-in recording and rehearsal studio! What matters most to Tad, other than a readjustment of their rehearsal time, is that Corinna can hook up his awesome new home theater. She just earned mega points!

An awkward morning after for Greenlee and her randy Spotted Dick shortly turned into…their little secret. For now.

Rut-ro. Zach found Dr. Hilliard’s Magic Elixir, um, Vitamins. Cue dramatic music! Time for some truths, Kendall. I really laughed at her argument against cochlear implants: they can’t go in the water; so poor Spike will be sidelined when all the other kiddies are frolicking in the pool. You know what? Teach him tennis.

Whatever happened to Winifred’s niece and Colby’s onetime foe, Sydney? Did they leave her in the condo’s crawl space when all moved into Casa KWAK Martin, or is she up in the Martin attic with the rest of them?

Cool! Greenlee and Erica were about to get into a catfight over a stuffed animal! Now there’s a first! Erica’s little speech sounded a bit as if she’d heard it before, maybe from Mona (ego problem, blaming mistakes on other people, etc.). Well, I’ve always felt that Greens was sort of an Erica Kane, Jr., her own Mini-Me.

Don’t let Annie redecorate the Penthouse, Ryan. Not when she can’t tell a window from a stairwell!

What exactly is Josh in charge of, Cambias Industries or Ian’s recovery?

Aww, look at Erica, going through all the toys she bought for Ian. Who is he to her again? Oh, right, her daughter’s son! There must be a less complex way to explain their relationship to each other. If only I could remember the term.

The last time a woman had to choose between Sonny and Trevor, she (Adela) chose Sonny. Will Kate follow suit? It sure looks that way.

Did you notice the free and easy way Spinelli interacted with Georgie when she showed up with Mike’s broken toaster? Will she still be leaving for the Sorbonne? Keep watching!

Lucky and Liz’s constant bickering about Jason is getting tiresome. They need an intervention from Luke, STAT.

Speaking of Luke, Georgie believes that Lulu’s attraction to Logan is due to his being a “bad boy” like her father. However, she noted that Logan doesn’t have the hero thing working in his favor. Spinelli seemed intrigued by her theory, and has renewed hope in his quest for The Blonde One. Holy backfire, Georgie! Now she really needs to get him to stop calling her “The Loyal Little Sister.” “The Insightful One” is an improvement, but how about “The Bodacious Busty One?”

Bizarre that Trevor would threaten Sonny with Ric. I mean, he despises his son almost as much as he hates “Mad Dog” Corinthos.

LINE OF THE WEEK: “Why don’t you two get a room?” Oh, Coop, if you only knew!

Oh, good, Kate’s hairstylist is back. I was getting concerned. After all, I once said she had the best coif on television, and lately, she was making a liar out of me. (Media) Ho-mey don’t play that!

Lest we forget: other cool supporting characters of the past: Filomena Soltini (Robin’s “grandmother”) and O-lin, Robin’s jive-talking Asian nanny who was introduced as part of the Asian Quarter story. Remember when Port Charles had an Asian Quarter? A memorable character that came from that part of town was Jade Soong, played by Tia Carrere, who went on to star on the big screen (Wayne’s World, Rising Sun, Wayne’s World 2, True Lies) and on a variety of television shows (most recently as a competitor on Dancing With The Stars, where she recreated the tango she did with Arnold Schwarzenegger in True Lies!).

Now that Georgie’s nearly sabotaged her chances with Spinelli, she’s counseling Maxie. For a smart girl, she sure has a short memory: her big sister never responds well to logic.

Nik thinks Jax screwed him out of his office space at the Metro Court because of the whole Jerry thing. Does he not remember how he had an affair with Jax’s then-wife, Courtney, and impregnated her? How soon we forget! Actually, the screw-up was courtesy of Nik’s butler, Alfred, who does not make it onto the list of memorable supporting characters.

Now we know why Ric’s going to give Alexis full custody of Molly: a visit from dear ol’ granddad, Trevor. Whatever works.

BLAST FROM THE PAST!

In preparation for the column I’ll be doing for EOS’ new sister site, Eyes On The Night, where I’ll be covering Ugly Betty, I’ve been having marathon viewings of the DVDs of Season One. I spotted two Port Charles alumni in the first half of the season. Rib Hillis (ex-Dr. Jake Marshak), one of the first interns killed by Greg Cooper in the General Homicide copycat murders, popped up on Ugly Betty as Sven, a masseur. This was a one-time role, but Hillis has had fairly steady work since biting the big one on Port Charles, mostly in television. Then there was Nolan North (ex-Dr. Chris Ramsay), who was literally the last intern standing, as all the others either left of died. He played a morning show host on Ugly Betty, and witnessed other guest star/series executive producer/movie star Salma Hayek (ex-Sofia Reyes…or not) dump MODE magazine editor Daniel Meade (played by Eric Mabius) live on television. North does tons of voice work, primarily on video games, but also in big productions like “Cars.” He also does occasional acting work. I like to hear good things about former Port Charles actors, as I enjoyed that spin-off until it got too gothic. I don’t think I have to recite the list of working alumni (Kelly Monaco, Michael Easton, to name just two), but here’s a few I hope to see on the big or small screen: Lynn Herring (and you KNOW where she should be!), Debbie Morgan, Joy Bisco, Pat Crowley, and Nicholas Pryor. Those I have omitted are either ones who have popped up on the radar now and then (Susan Haskell, Julie Pinson, Marie Wilson, Charles Keating, Kimberlin Brown) or those I don’t much care about (Jon Lindstrom, Erin Hershey Presley). Ah, memories!
