...soaps in the key of life

Killer Queen

She keeps Moët et Chandon
In her pretty cabinet
Let them eat cake she says
Just like Marie Antoinette
A built-in remedy
For Kruschev and Kennedy
At anytime an invitation
You can't decline

Caviar and cigarettes
Well versed in etiquette
Extraordinarily nice

Chorus
She’s a killer queen
Gunpowder, gelatine
Dynamite with a laser beam
Guaranteed to blow your mind
Anytime

What can you say about a woman who makes passionate love to the father of her child, then afterwards rocks their baby girl to sleep to the muffled sounds of bullets plunging into his body? Well, you can chalk it up to a day in the life of Skye Quartermaine!  I found the scene of Lorenzo Alcazar’s demise both disturbing and intriguing. Once again, Guza and Co. didn’t fail to abandon romance for violence and left the window open to “whodunit” by not showing Alcazar literally getting plugged but instead showing Skye hearing it from upstairs with an eerily calm expression on her beautiful, angular face. (If it is supposed to be a mystery, Jason quickly took credit for the kill and promised Sonny that he’d “cleaned up the mess”.) Wonder if they’ll do a ballistics test to see if the fatal bullet was really fired from Jason’s gun. After all, doesn’t everyone in Port Chuck carry around a gun with a silencer?  Hmmm…

Back to the object of my attention, which is the not so fair Skye.  Let’s face it, her actions were calculating, cruel and brrr … cold!  That’ll teach a man to mess with a mama where her child is concerned! I guess Ric Lansing fared far better when he at least legally won custody of daughter Molly - complete with unlimited visitation - instead of kidnapping her and hiding her from her mother. The worst thing Alexis did was spew a bunch of vile accusations his way and pontificate to anyone who would listen about injustice in the legal system and then promptly fainted on Spoon Island (She still has cancer, right? Not many signs of it these days except for that stilly wig. Talking about  “story interrupted”! Geesh!)

It didn’t take long for DA Lansing to swoop in and sniff around about Alky’s disappearance, no doubt already tasting a sweet murder conviction for Jason Morgan and breathing a sigh of relief about escaping Lorenzo’s blackmail. This is the case Ric’s been dying for and he’s chomping at the bit to pin the wrap on Anger Boy (Still like that nickname better than “Stone Cold”. Sorry, Spinelli!) Another fascinating aspect of the unfolding events is Ric’s willingness to nudge Skye along. “I’d file a missing person’s report if I were you.”

Of course, she doesn’t trust the DA as far as she could throw him but self-preservation is a language that Ric is fluent in and that Skye understands all too well. I’m very anxious to see the sparks fly between these two and why shouldn’t they? They do have a lot in common.

Both Skye and Ric have been basically shunned by their families (Skye by more than one) and eat, sleep and breathe vengeance. Both have discovered that the one true thing that matters in their lives is his or her adorable baby girl. Both are dealing with heavy abandonment issues and are seeking unconditional love and acceptance. Both will pull out all stops to get what they need to prevail over their enemies and protect their children. Both crave power and control. Finally, both are capable of showing compassion and have worn their hearts on their sleeves before, which is the trait that keeps them human and opens them up to certain vulnerabilities.

But is a “Killer Queen” like Skye too much for Ric Lansing to handle? I think not. Look back at his illicit liaison with Faith Roscoe. That produced some of the steamiest scenes in GH history and I can see Skye giving as good as she gets in that department. I think that cunning Mr. Lansing is definitely up to the challenge and my TV screen is long overdue for some steam.

“Give me steam.

And how you feel to make it real
Real as anything you've seen
Get a life with this dreamer's dream…”

(Ah, Peter Gabriel! Gotta love that man! More on this song in another column, hopefully, after we’ve seen the temperatures rise between these two. STRONG HINT, GH!)

Could this finally be the true calling for Skye Cudahy Chandler Quartermaine? After traveling from All My Children, to One Life to Live and finally landing in Port Charles, I’d like to see ABC daytime take make this character whole. She could be the next vixen, like Faith but of course, with a heart. If TPTB are hell bent on giving us a mob boss with heart of gold, why not have a new and equally dangerous leading lady with the same MO?

To avoid complications
She never kept the same address
In conversation
She spoke just like a baroness
Met a man from China
Went down to Geisha Minah
Then again incidentally
If you’re that way inclined

Perfume came naturally from Paris
For cars she couldn’t care less
Fastidious and precise

Forget the dalliance with Ned Ashton, the short-lived marriage with Jax and the “almost” relationship with Luke Spencer. And I sincerely hope that last week was the last time Skye begs Edward or any of the Q’s for forgiveness or acceptance into a family that could care less about her. It’s time for us to see that this Skye has no limits and that anyone named Quartermaine, Corinthos, Spencer or Jax had better look out!  And Ric? Go get her, baby!

Drop of a hat she’s as willing as
Playful as a pussy cat
Then momentarily out of action
Temporarily out of gas
To absolutely drive you wild, wild…
She’s all out to get you
