There are three places where people especially children should feel safe. One is at home. Two is at school and three should be in a house of G-d.

Unfortunately life isn't going the way it should. Too many disturbances are happening in our schools, from shootings, theft and pedophilia to the lackadaisical attitude some schools have. Or is it, "I'd better not stick my neck out?" At home, where the percentage is greater to a one parent household, that parent is left without an anchor to help. There is just too much child abuse, too much drug abuse and too much parental abuse for many homes to be a safe environment. And moving on to a house of G-d. How many of us have been involved with the actions of a nun, a priest or a rabbi who willing  do exactly what G-d's commandments do not condone?

I grew up with many wonderful role models. None, by the way, were perfect. Then again, who is? I am incensed by the role models our children admire today. Our generation had JFK, Mickey Mantel and really, who didn't want to be part of the original Rat Pack? Ok, so JFK and MM  were womanizers. But way back when, that was cool. The Rat Pack drank and smoked and again, we thought that was cool. Were we all so liberal way back then to not realized our role models were full of shit?  What woman didn't want to look like  Marilyn Monroe? By the way she was a size 12. Now, if you aren't a size two you are considered fat.

This week had Michael Vick finally confessing to his crime. He admits he needs to grow up for the children who consider him a role model. I am waiting for Packman Jones to admit to his nasty deeds too. Please Michael and Packman, grow up and straighten out. You have proven you are not eligible for the crown of role model.

We watched Paris, Lindsey, Britney and the lovely Nicole (aka "82 minutes and I'm out") have no choice but to own up to their individual nasty deeds. How can any of these "ladies" be a role model? How and why do we care about them? We have certain people who are out there publicly in the news who we idolize. If we really knew them, I MEAN REALLY KNEW THEM, would we feel the same way? They eat, sleep, curse and even use the bathroom just like you and me. The only difference is they are shielded by their people so they always look good. Well, almost always look good.  Then we have the scandal sheets and internet websites who out them at every chance. Do we take glee in this or do we just read and defend them?

The bottom line is, you are your role model. If you can look at yourself in the mirror and believe in your heart, (without being a pathological liar) that you are doing the right thing for the right reason, then you have succeeded and need to look no further.

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
